A Third Sacrament
Traditionally, Presbyterians observe two sacraments: Communion and Baptism. At First Church, we use a third sacramental element in liturgy, called “Dianoigó.” In this, we take up a third practice of giving and receive as Jesus did for his disciples, telling them, “go and do likewise.”
Dianoigó is a Koine Greek word meaning, “to fully open.” In this ritual, we imitate Jesus washing his disciples’ feet by washing each other’s hands.
